I’m totally in love with this book! It has so many good ideas! I have a 17 month old and sometimes I’m at a loss when it comes to finding something fun or creative to do around the house. It’s nice being able to flip through this book at night after he’s asleep and pick out a few things to do! I read a lot of reviews for this book before ordering it and some people complained that the ideas were too simple and obvious. Yes— there are some simple ideas but they’re really great simple ideas! And having them all written down in one book that’s easy to reference is so great. I’m only on chapter 3 and have already marked so many pages with activities that I know he’ll love! I love the idea of the flashlight safari. Turning the light out and exploring the nursery with a flashlight and pointing out different stuffed animals. So cute and creative!
I am currently an elementary school teacher who will be staying home with my 15 month old son soon. I bought this book to get ideas on how to keep my son busy in a productive way once I leave my job. I read it cover to cover. From an educator's perspective I think this book is great! There are a lot of activities that will help them build their foundational skills (gross and fine motor, numbers, letters, etc). Many are easily adaptable to whatever your needs are. I would say more of them are focused on toddlers a little older than my son, but there are still plenty for one year olds to stay occupied!
These “creative†“ideasâ€/ activities are things any average human can think up without needing this book to do so. Do not purchase!
Not the best in the world, I am sure, but its not a bad book either. We, as a creative family, keep many of the suggested items on hand (and I would recommend that anyone with small children keep a storage area filled with craft supplies), so it was nice to have some ideas of what to do with my 2 year old. While some of the ideas ARE very basic, sometimes the brain of a frazzled parent needs a jump start, and while you may say "well duh" after reading it, it might not be something you would have thought of right off to begin with.We have enjoyed lots of activites with this book, and while its not arranged by age groups, parents should be somewhat aware of what their child as an individual will be able to do/enjoy. If you have a two year old who likes to put small objects in their mouth then dont do those activities-its that simple! But the amount of games and ideas are good for a variety of stages in your toddlers development and can be great spur of the moment activities.
This book has some good ideas for kids 1yr - 3yrs. You really have to sift around the book and mark what works for your little ones, but it's super handy to have on a shelf and grab when you're kiddos are having a "boring" day. Some of the ideas need to be amended to fit diff age groups, but most are fine the way they are written. Out of lots of books I bought to help with those Mommy Needs Help days...this one is the best.
The book is interesting and gives nice ideas for activities with toddlers. I have to admit I only used few of the activities though. Most of the activities are for bigger toddlers, my daughter is only seventeen months and many of the activities stated in this book are still too early for her. Some activities are also repeated. Overall, it's a nice book to have for the ideas and I hope I can use it more when my daughter gets a bit older.
The extensive sample pages on Amazon are what convinced me to buy this book. I was not disappointed. I found tons of great ideas for enriching play time with my toddler. Some of the ideas were simply variations of others, so to say "365" games and activities is a bit of a stretch, but the book does contain hundreds of great ideas for all circumstances (inside/outside, messy/clean, etc.), many requiring few or no supplies to be purchased. Other activities require items that can easily be saved from day-to-day household use (like milk containers and egg cartons). For a first-time parent or a day-care provider, this book is a fun and very useful resource.
I am using this book along with the Preschooler's Busy Book to create Preschool homeschooling program for my 3 year old and almost 1 year old. With another sibling coming along in 8 months, these books will be getting a LOT of use:)My only complaint (and this is nothing against Mrs. Kuffner's books) is that because I live overseas in a developing country the "everyday" items to use are extremely rare for me to find. In the States, it's fantastic! With the internet I can get almost everything, but I can't find some "everyday" items (such as spray paint). This is only a warning to anyone who might be considering these books and is living in developing nations (I know from experience that developed nations have almost all of the items she recommends readily available). For instance, flour is a precious commodity here and I won't use it to make fingerpaints or playdough.That said, I have recommended these books to other expats living here wanting to create their own homeschool programs for their preschoolers. Many of her ideas are even fascinating for my 11 year old.
