Her writing is beautiful and her storytelling is amazing. She writes about topics that are near and dear to her heart with the hopes of enlightening her readers about mental health.Throughout her Trials of Fear series, she introduces us to some not-so-known phobias.This book had me at the edge of my seat from the very beginning as we watch Grayson battle with Chronophobia (a fear of time or passage of time).As with all of Mrs. James’s books, she takes us on a rollercoaster ride with our emotions and when I pick up one of her books to read I know that I’m in for the ride of my life. Lost in a Moment did not disappoint!Lost in a Moment ticks a few boxes for me.Best friends to lovers (tick) and GFY (big tick).If you’re following her Trials of Fear series, or if you want a MM romance with a lot of heart and story that wrings the emotion out of you, then Lost in a Moment is definitely the book for you.Note: All the books in Trials of Fear are standalone, so you can one-click with confidence if you haven’t read previous books.

I've read each of the Trials of Fear books so far, and I've loved each one. This one has made me angry, cry, laugh and smile. It has been such an awesome story. I love the friends to lovers trope, especially the unrequited love part. This book has definitely not disappointed with that trope. It was wonderful!

This is by far my favorite of the series.I'm a sucker for the friends to lovers trope. Take best friends to lovers, and I'm yours. Like always, Nicky creates such a unique plot that really separates her books. This follows Grayson, a man who is afraid of the passing of time. At first, I was curious to see what this actually meant and how Nicky was going to show it. But the way his phobia develops and form was really interesting to see.Grayson and Beckett were adorable. Grayson has been harboring feelings for Grayson for a while. When Grayson moves in with Beckett after his accident, he finds his feeling deepening even more. Beckett has always considered himself straight. But when Grayson moves in, he starts to see him in a new way. I thought their relationship developed really naturally. I also respected the fact that even though they were in love, it did not magically cure Grayson's phobias.This is one of my favorites series right now. Each book is so unique! The next book will be based on a phobia of food and I can't wait to read it!

This is the first book in this series I have read. Since all of the books are standalone I took a chance and I'm really glad I did. I have seen many recommendations for Nicky James any time the sub-genre is related to main characters with mental illness. This is the first time I have seen a book that studies human phobias. I am always on the look out for books that showcase a character's struggles with illness. I am thrilled with the amount of time and research that the author used to accurately portray the symptoms of the illness as well as demonstration on being a supportive partner to someone with an illness. This book has the friends to lovers trope, pining, illness, angst and a happy ending so there is something for everyone. I really enjoyed reading this book and will need to go back and read the other books in the series.

Nicky James, you owe me a box of tissues! This beautiful, powerful, heartbreaking yet hopeful, raw, intense, poignant, grab-you-by-the-feels, shred your heart, stomp on the pieces, then put them back together, fantastic, emotionally charged, filled with cheers, fears, jeers and tears, gritty, gripping, slow burning, awesome, and unique twist on the traditional friends-to-lovers trope had me bawling like a baby, wanting to hug Grayson, and wanting to smack some sense into Beckett! I DEFINITELY recommend one clicking this entire marvelous masterpiece of a series ASAP!!

This is only my second Nicky James book but it certainly won't be the last. There were times I had to stop reading this book because I had some high-stress things going on and Nicky's storytelling racheted up the tension even more. This friends-to-lovers, gay-for-you romance is not for the faint of heart. I love that nothing comes easy, that there's no smoothing things over to get along, it's all-out raw feelings. If you're a fan of psychological drama with broken characters, this book is for you. *I received an arc of this book*

Nicky James' Lost in a Moment (Trials of Fear #4/KU) is live and it was EXCELLENT! After holding my breath from word one, I can finally breathe and stop pressing on my heart!! A beautifully written, friends to lovers, GFY, heart aching read with a hard fought HEA. The epilogue made me so very happy as well!!! I will say I am a bit freaked out by the clocks in my house now!! LOL I have survived my second Nicky James book....WOOHOO!!! Each book in the series is a standalone.

This story gave me plenty of emotions. Nicky did an amazing job making you feel as though you lived every happy and heartbreaking moment with Beckett and Gray. She walked you through exactly what Gray suffered along with Beckett as he tried so desperately to help. Mental illness is a serious issue and it's outlined in this book just how important support and therapy are in beating it! I can't say enough good things about Beckett and his support. What a beautiful love story the two of them shared through good and amazingly hard times. As always Nicky, beautiful work!

This is the second book of poetry by Tracy Smith that I've read. The first was "Wade in the Water." Of the two, "Life on Mars" is a little less accessible. On the whole, I had to struggle to glean meaning from her poems. To be sure, some of her poems (e.g., "Song," "Us & Co," and "Solstice") are straightforward. One - "They May Love All That He Has Chosen and Hate All That He Has Rejected" - is extremely moving. But I found most of her poems in this collection to be borderline head-scratchers. Her command of language and metaphor is excellent but I personally found many of the poems tough going. Recommended with reservations. (For a bit too much abstruseness.)

This collection of poems by Tracy Smith was extremely fascinating. With poem titles of “My God, It’s Full of Stars”, and “The Universe is a House Party”, Smith undoubtedly challenges each reader to follow along. She dreams up a vast universe but comes back to earth and tells of simple children innocently playing. She daringly delves into religion and God while also exploring space and the stars. It is clear that Tracy doesn’t fear defying the norm with her imagination. One of my favorite poems from this collection is titled, Sci-Fi. She describes, with choice words, a future society. It reads, “For kicks, we'll dance for ourselves before mirrors studded with golden bulbs. The oldest among us will recognize that glow— But the word sun will have been re-assigned, to the Standard Uranium-Neutralizing device found in households and nursing homes. And yes, we'll live to be much older, thanks to popular consensus. Weightless, unhinged, eons from even our own moon, we'll drift in the haze of space, which will be, once and for all, scrutable and safe.” Just these few lines could give you enough depth to make a futuristic sci-fi movie. Smith allows you to fill in the gaps as she gradually guides you through your own imagination. She doesn’t elaborate on and on to give the reader an easy image, rather she skillfully uses specific words that when combined, provide so much depth. This book may be short in length, but it is extremely deep in content. Each poem took reflection and contemplation and I found myself pausing to ponder before continuing to the next. I could read this over and over and be taught new things by Smith each time.

The first third of this book is quite good, showing Ms. Smith as a poet with an original voice and vision. I thought the latter poems in the collection not so inventive. This could just be me, so if your a Tracy K. Smith champion, please ignore my remarks. I read a lot of contemporary poetry and much of the last half of this book seemed weaker when compared to the first grouping of poems. Still, she's a poet worth watching.

"Life on Mars" is a collection of 33 poems touching on most aspects of 21st Century American hope and belief. Make no mistake about it: life on Mars is life on Earth, and readers will recognize the ironies (sometimes quite bitter) between our culture's surface appearances we so like to show others and the realities of deep scars and wounds we try to hide even from ourselves. The poem that gives the collection its title is a beautifully crafted work that discusses the "dark matter" existing between us that we don't (won't?) recognize and that might be responsible for wreaking havoc in our personal lives. It's a chilling indictment of us all that uses actual recent events in our country to make us hope and pray that it's dark matter causing our incest, intolerance, ignorance and destruction. An earlier generation would've said "The devil made me do it," but ours tries to lay the blame on natural phenomena. The poem packs a punch - deftly though, and artistically. I swear it must have taken Smith many revisions and months to get it right, choosing just the right image, the right words, the right inflections and line meter to achieve such success.The poem "Life on Mars" is followed by a shorter gem: "Solstice." Here, Smith addresses the killing of Canada geese at JFK airport, the killing of people, and the public's dwindling interest in the news. What's remarkable is Smith chose the format of a villanelle to tell the tale - a poetic form that uses rhyme, repetition and meter to create a mystical atmosphere. In this case, the villanelle greatly heightens a feeling of helplessness and loss, and we pray that the solstice of our culture has been reached and that light will soon begin to return.The poem that provides the biggest kick in the book, however, is the monumental elegy, "The Speed of Belief." It contains some great lines and images, and walks us through a daughter's coping with the loss of her father. I say "coping" and not "grieving," because the daughter tries to imagine her father's death as part of a continuum, not an ending, and the poem builds through seven magnificently crafted sections to a powerful, wonderful conclusion that will leave the reader satisfied and saying, "Yes! Yes!" And one striking image from the poem will stay with me for a very long time, her father standing in the heavens, and "Night kneels at your feet like a gypsy glistening with jewels." This poem alone is worth the price of the book!Great lines abound in this collection. For example, take this image from "The Good Life": a poor person " . . . walking to work on payday / like a woman journeying for water / from a village without a well."These are poems that unflinchingly capture the human condition today, but they do so with great beauty . . . and a touch of solace.
