The book is basically a pretty good one. But I had a couple of problems which, basically, are not the author's fault. first I just wanted a refresher on the types of, and formulas for Control Charts. The author went way beyond that; so the wordiness went too much in detail for other aspects of Total Quality Management. If this is what you need, the all means, buy it. The other problem I had was that the tables / formulae were way too small. Again, not the author's fault; that's just the way it shows up on my Fire.

I recommend this book because it contains simple concepts and pay attention to show methods and techniques for self study, calculations, probability distribution and graphs in relationship to statistical process control in any situations of manufacturing.I like to do the excercises and have a complete quizzses and final exam, from my point of view I would like you, my appeciate reader have one to read and study.Jaime Zamora A.November 9, 2013

Not a bad book, and one which covers the mechanics statistical process control, but the book focused way too much on how to do statistical process control, rather then the why. The end result is that the book leaves you with a good collection of recipes but no real understanding of how to cook. I did like how the author focuses so much of the book on issues of collecting good, independent data samples.

Two gripes:First, it's important to be very careful when ordering, I searched for the Shearer translation The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali (Sacred Teachings) and commentary and it came up as a hardcover, but with options for a Kindle edition or a soft cover. The soft cover was very inexpensive so I clicked on that option and ordered. What I did not realize was that the soft cover is not the same book. It's not the Shearer but the Charles Johnston. I only realized this once it arrived. I guess I should have been more careful, but this should not be touted on the page for the Shearer edition as a soft-cover alternative. It was cheap enough that I'll keep it for comparison, but it's not the book I wanted and it's a warning to be careful when navigating around Amazon books.Second, the Johnston edition itself is really quite irritating. Each individual sutra is followed by a paragraph of commentary so steeped in the Christian tradition with its doctrines of sin and perversity, salvation, and servility to divine lordship that the connection with Patanjali's own words becomes a total mystery. I probably won't be able to stomach getting through the whole thing.Cheap though!

With the possible exception of the Bhagavad Gita, the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali is one of the most translated Hindu scripture in existence. The Commentaries are innumerable and rival in number to the translations as well.This book joins the ranks in the many available English versions. The translator of this version — not apparently identified in the book — points out that this is an “interpretation” of this great work.This version contains a commentary on each sutra. It also is a drastic reinterpretation of the work, creating a new terminology in the process. The meaning is there, the essence of the various sutras are present, but instead of retaining the original Sanskrit word of the various concepts found therein, or an ordinary translation, the translator/interpreter has employed his/her own terminology. Thus, instead of advidya, ignorance, the translator/interpreter uses “unwisdom.” The gunas are “potencies of nature.” Samskaras become “mind-impressions,” and pratyayas become “mind images.” Dharana becomes, “attention,” dhyana becomes “meditation,” samadhi becomes “soul vision,” and samyana, the combined concentration of dharana, dhyana, and samadhi, becomes “perfectly concentrated meditation.”Using terminology in this manner is in many instances conveys more meaning because many of the original Sanskrit words cannot be adequately translated in a single word. The Sanskrit word, vritti is a good example. Some translations render this word as “fluctuations.” It usually takes a commentary to further explain to meaning of vrittis. This interpretation uses the phrase, “versatile psychic nature.”This is an entirely different approach to the Yoga Sutras. While other translations have translated the sutras with more descriptive wording, and others have simply retained the original Sanskrit, this presentation goes farther in creating a entirely new terminology wholesale.It is an acquired taste, and you will probably be reading this reinterpretation with another conventional translation at hand to “translate” the translator/interpreter’s meaning, but this version will increase your understanding of this work.

This is a classic, authoritative translation and commentary. It's free because it's in the public domain. I personally found it easier to understand than any other translation and commentary. I even prefer it over the version of my beloved hero Swami Vivekananda.The audible version published by Om Shanti Audio is taken from this version. I wholeheartedly recommend that recording. You might prefer to read this kindle version before you buy the audible book. Either way, this will clear up many of your questions about Patanjali and yogic philosophy.

This book was a requirement for my 200-hr YTT. It brought together many of my past spiritual and psychological readings and learnings. I think it may be harder for someone to grasp if they haven't done some sort of extensive meditation and yoga practice but the reading displays the truth of mind and collective consciousness. I recommend it as a essential reading to any spiritual-reading library.

Borrowed this book from the library and liked it so much I bought a copy. For each sutra, the author gives Vyasa's commentary and then in the discussion section compares many commentaries on the sutras and gives broader explanation. Author includes charts and graphs that are extremly helpful in understanding the sutras. Each sutra is given in Devanagari/ Sanskrit and each word is individually translated into English. Do understand, this book only covers the first pada of the Yoga Sutras, but it is worth every penny.

I don't like this particular translation/discussion of the Sutras. Somehow the translator managed to convolute short, direct sentences. They introduce foreign terms and seem to go on tangents. I've found myself just reading the direct translation and then googling several other sites which do a much better job of discussing the sentences further, without having to create their own phrasing or concepts. And since you can already find Patanjali's writing online, you're really buying the book for the discussion of the translation.

This book is everything everyone says it is when it comes to a warm, feel-good read. More than half the book is dedicated to the situation of the school in rural North Carolina and the experiences of a teacher who went there from California to get a different experience. The main characters in the book are a couple of teachers and community leaders, and not necessarily the kids who built the car. The real story of the electric car doesn't get started until about halfway through the book. While I would have been interested in a few more details about the project, the book is still a good read. It skips large sections of the actual project. You seem to go from the initial planning stages to the competition without knowing if the kids painted the car, but that's a minor drawback. By the time the competition starts, it seems like there are only a few pages left, but that's probably the most powerful part of the book. The "disadvantaged" kids manage to win the competition in an emotional and unexpected surprise performance by their car. It appears as though the victory was partially due to painstaking planning and the good luck of having chosen better drivers who knew how to get the most out of the car. Finally, I would have liked a little more closure. There is a section at the end that quickly wraps up what happened later, and while it gives the basic details, it leaves you wanting to know just a little more. Still, in spite of all the drawbacks, this is a very good book, and if you are interested in electric vehicles, it's a different take on the topic.

This was a very nice book to read. One is immediately caught up in the drive and heart of the underdog, much like some of the more common sports books of that genre. Kingston's book is the embodiment of post-modern conscience. As such, her writing is fragmented and at times the plot is unintelligible, obscured by intense imagery and rhetoric. The negative response to her work is thus understandable. However, the importance of Kingston's novel lies in its intensity, in its dense language and imagery, and in its ultimate unintelligibility. The lack of superficial structure and form, and the fragmentation of characters and occurences embody the external and internalized difficulties faced by Kingston's protagonist and the diasporic community as a whole, and likewise exemplifies the problems with and responses to diasporic literature. Overall, while obscure and difficult, Kingston's novel is an important feat (both for readers who complete the novel and for Kingston).

I feel so sorry for anyone who has to read this. Granted, it was for a classroom assignment, and for my old lion of a professor who said, "Reading literature (humph!) is not about enjoyment; reading literature is about (humph!) suffering."Oh, this is suffering, all right."Tripmaster" sums this book up perfectly. This entire book READS like an LCD trip. It is so saturated by so many adjectives, unexplained Chinese culture and myth, and literary in-jokes (Ah Bartleby! Ah humanity! Quickly, where does that come from?!) that you feel as though you've just plowed into someone else's conversation by accident. Many lines don't seem to make any kind of sense at all. The prose is awkward at best, and confusing and irritating the rest of the time.The greatest crime committed here is the characterization. I hated every single character; they were, without fail, unlikable, selfish, and pretentious. They all thought they were the most brilliant people ever born; Ms. Kingston seems to pat herself on the back every time she writes about them. They really all deserved to die. When Wittman sees a bomber in the sky I kept hoping it would accidentally release its payload upon him.What could be a fascinating look at the 60s and Chinese culture turns out to be nothing less than literary masturbation. Every page I read, I could nearly hear Ms. Kingston saying, "Look at how much I know. My vocabulary is unparalleled! My knowledge of literature, a height untouchable! Look at how perfectly my book breaks the mold. Look at me. Look at me!"Some difficult texts are worth poring over -- like, oh, Shakespeare, for instance. This piece of filth has no reward to offer you for your diligence. Avoid it for your sanity's sake.

It is hard to believe that "Tripmaster Monkey: His ... Book" is by the same author who wrote "The Woman Warrior." Maxine Hong Kingston's "Tripmaster Monkey" is her first "novel" (though by no means her first foray into fiction), and it is easy to see why there was a nine year gap between this book and "China Men." Kingston's novel, centring on a young, literary minded Chinese American man named Wittman Ah Sing, is meticulously researched and detailed, bringing to life the issues and fads of the mid-1960s Bay Area literary scene. Wittman, largely without an Chinese/Asian American literary tradition, has to overcome (white) racist assumptions of "the artist" in order to produce his truly American play without it being reduced to some "exotic" or "Oriental" exercise in Asianness. Despite the seriousness of Wittman's self- and community-driven mission to be taken seriously as an artist despite the racist assumptions that attempt to stifle his creativity, the novel is extremely funny, witty and surreal. Wittman disturbs a girl he is infatuated with by proclaiming "I am really: the present-day USA incarnation of the King of the Monkeys." Wittman is fired from his department store job because he puts "an organ-grinder's monkey with cymbals attached to its hands" on ..., for customers (children) to see! Wittman's parents abandon his honorary grandmother PoPo high in the Sierra Nevada Mountains to die, and she is later rescued by a wealthy man who just happens to be seeking a wife! In many ways, Kingston's rendering of the surreal, "tripmaster" (mental and physical) wanderings of Wittman resemble the textual flow of the post-"Moby Dick" novels by Herman Melville. As with those later Melville novels, Kingston's own novel is often angry, but is also frightfully funny and filled with accurate observations of life, love and the role of art, religion, philosophy and national identity in society.
