The Kaplan Catholic High School Entrance Exam review book is an excellent tool to use in preparing for the HSPT. The book provides excellent descriptions of general strategies to use on each section of the test, rather than providing detailed subject matter content that is covered on the test. If you want a book that is going to teach your student algebra, then don't buy this book. If you want a tool to teach your student strategies that will improve their score on the test, this book is your best bet.
I've taught TACHS review class for over ten years. This is the only book I've used. The practice exams are better than those in any other TACHS review books.
I recommend this book very highly. My son used it to prepare for the High School Placement Test. It helped him to refresh his memory on some topics, he used the strategies to know how to approach the test, and the practice tests were really helpful. As a result, he scored higher on a couple of areas than he ever has on a standardized test! Well worth the money!
Daughter prepped using only this book, and received a 99% on the HSPT! Would highly recommend.
