Anniken Allis always produces beautiful new patterns and this book is full of them. I prefer jumpers to scarves, shawls etc but the instructions for e erything are so clear that I can work out which patterns to use in different ways. A beautiful book.

I had never heard of BDD until two years ago when my son spiraled into a major depression due to body image concern. I found this book most helpful in directing me how to find the right treatment for him because my son had become so depressed, suicidal and non-functioning that he would not have been able to seek the right treatment on his own. It gave me hope that there is help out there for people suffering from this terrible disorder. The book also has good advice for how family members should interact with their ill family member so that they don't make things worse. We went through some very rough times these last two years but during those times I would read pertinent parts of this book over which gave me comfort and hope. I am happy to say that my son is doing much better now after attending the intensive outpatient therapy program at the BDD Center of Los Angeles.
Having a family member who suffers from Body Dysmorphic Disorder, I felt my prayers had been answered when I read Dr. Phillips first edition of the book...and her second is even better. It answered so many questions and concerns. I cried in several segments, because it was like reading about my own family member. Dr. Phillips helped me understand this complex disorder, and also gave me the insight to realize that many others are out there who suffer from this sometimes bizarre disorder.
Contains everything a lay person would need to know about Body Dysmorphic Disorder. Very well written and easy to follow. Less detailed than Dr Phillips 2017 book BDD-advances in research, but has all the key facts about BDD. Although it is a very bad disease, thanks to clinical researchers like Dr. Phillips, there is hope.
I highly recommend these books to anyone. Sufferers or someone who knows someone who suffers from it. BDD is something that is highly misunderstood and often judged because its something psychological. BDD is an invisible illness, so people can't see it to understand it. If we could openly talk about it without feeling embarrassed, BDD would be widely known. Anyways, I started reading this book since I was waiting for her original but revised version to come into the mail. I hope it'll enlighten me about BDD and fully understand why I have it. I hope whoever has read it or plans to read it, will end up feeling the same way. It's a hard disorder to overcome but I pray that not just me but everyone that suffers from it will be able to control it.
I am a Psychologist and work with BDD clients, and this text is most helpful. I have found it useful to share some of the statistics and life stories that are included in the book. It is amazing how helpful it is for clients to discover they are not alone.Material is complete and presented in an organized and useful way. The understanding enabled for both client and therapist is one of the main traits of this book. And the author is obviously committed to the betterment/healing of her clients.One thing that I believe can be very useful is to understand that these clients are bothered by the PROCESS (obsessiveness of thoughts) as much as the CONTENT of the thoughts in this disorder. In addition, they are often more concerned with THEIR perceptions of themselves than they are with the perceptions of others (despite the presentation of the problem).
I found this to be a really valuable book. Clear and comprehensive; written for the common person, not a clinician. It helped me understand the struggles of a family member suffering from BDD, and gave me insights and techniques to provide more effective support. And perhaps even more importantly, it dispelled my misconceptions and helped me avoid common missteps that could have made matters even worse. I highly recommend this book if you know anyone trying to deal with BDD; something that is far more common that you probably know.
This book is a fake, I got a book about emotions/neuroscience instead of what I actually needed!
Tends to be repetitive but very informational. Helps family, friends, and self understand the very real disorder. Also suggests positive treatments.

The pictures and information in this book was great. It was meant as a gift for my mother, since she collects antique perfume bottles, but I couldn't stop looking at the pictures and reading about the bottles. The book was far to me.i listen to lot of goth music.some of the bands listed in the book were in wrong spots in the book.it even better if they did not put steampunk in this book!after all this it was a far book to have in your collection.
I love how the author explains about the music, aesthetics, history, etc. She kept the Goth Subculture subject very nice and consistent. :)

I love Pride and Prejudice, but I have to admit I'd pretty much figured that one parody (Pride & Prejudice & Zombies) was all I could handle. I was wrong. In fact, I wish I'd read this one first and skipped Zombies altogether. Not to drag out the comparison, but Zombies was a one-trick pony, and this hilarious little gem is a riot from start to finish. The author makes unabashed and irreverent fun of one of literature's most beloved classics, but he does it with a wink and a nod that also convey a respect for the source material. He uses play-on words, puns, and a stripping away of all character veneer to get down to the sheer humor in all the book's situations to deliver a laugh a minute without ever devolving into roll-your-eyes silliness. Smart, well-written, and funny. I think even Austen would have laughed.
Jane Austen fans will laugh through Pied & Prodigious. D.M. Andrews had gone scene-by-scene through the familiar masterpiece and turned it on its head. The comedy of manners now focuses on tall hats, height and notable lack of accomplishment. Lizzy is lamentably unattractive as she is too short and a flurry of prodigious accomplishments. Mr. Dicey, of the tall hat and Pied suit, is the fashionable man of means (AKA a vast wardrobe). From the vampire de Bore to the Blingley siblings, all the Austen characters are transformed. It's a hoot!
If you don't know Pride and Prejudice (really? Have you been living under a rock?) read it first; you can't appreciate this parody unless you know what is being made fun of. The author has taken the Austen story and stood it on its head, to hilarious effect. I didn't just grin, sometimes I laughed out loud. I believe some thought this was disrespectful to the original author; I'd look at it more as similar to what Weird Al does with music videos, the original must be both good in its way, and well-known, else the joke would be lost.
Very true to the original novel and oh so very funny with the changes she made. I spent a great deal of time giggling and enjoyed it tremendously.
It's cute, follows the general story. An abundance of puns and plays on phrases. Diverting, would be silly if one wasn't steeped in the original.
I found the irreverence just right in this take on the Jane Austen classic. If you enjoyed the original, but thought that it was ripe for satire, then this is for you.
Absolutely hilarious! Loved it!
All of the "cutsie" names and references got on to be too much. By the end of the first chapter I could NOT read any further. Good thing that this travesty did not cost very much. Jane Austin should not be messed with by someone who THINKS they are funny.
